How Can I Take Advantage of the $1500 Tax Credit?

MoneyThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (part of the Economic Stimulus plan) extends federal tax credits for “qualified energy improvements,” which includes replacement windows and doors. The tax credit is for 30% of the cost of the eligible product up to $1500. The requirements are the windows or doors must have a U-value of .30 or less and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of .30 or less. This can be done with most vinyl or clad wood windows by using low e 366 glass. This glass will reduce harmful UV rays that fade carpet and furniture up to 95% while still maximizing light in your home. The result is windows and doors that minimize heat transfer, heat loss, and fading. Your home will be very energy efficient resulting in lower energy bills and greater comfort year round. You may claim qualifying product cost on your 2009 or 2010 tax return.
