There are many options for grids (divided lights) on windows. On vinyl windows you will see most often grids inside the glass. These are aluminum bars in between two panes of glass that come in flat or sculptured designs. This is a great option for easy cleaning, but doesn’t look as authentic as real true divided light bars. A very common option on clad wood and fiberglass windows is Simulated divided light grids. These are bars applied to both the inside and the outside of the glass, usually with a spacer bar inside the glass that follows the same pattern. This is a more authentic look, but it is more difficult for cleaning. Some window companies will offer combinations of both to give you a better look on one side or the other.
