Fiberglass or Wood?

Wood and fiberglassWhen choosing a new entry door there are two main categories to choose from, fiberglass and wood. The main factor to look at is exposure to sun and moisture. If you don’t have enough of an overhang to prevent exposure to the door, the best choice is fiberglass. Fiberglass doors come in a variety of designs and wood grains. Most can be either painted or stained to look like real wood. These doors are made to withstand the elements and be trouble free. Fiberglass doors are typically less expensive than wood doors. The negative side of fiberglass is that you are more limited in available sizes and styles. There is nothing that will match the look and feel of a real wood entry door. You are really only limited by your imagination. There are unlimited styles that will fit almost any budget and wood doors can be made to fit any door opening. Wood doors require more maintenance to keep them working properly and they are typically more expensive than fiberglass doors. You must make sure to meet the manufacturer’s requirements for overhang or you may have trouble getting a warranty.
