Andersen Named 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year

Andersen Windows and Doors

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) have named the Andersen Corporation, maker of Andersen windows and doors, the 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year award in the window category for the second year in a row. Andersen received the award for their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by creating and teaching consumers about their energy-efficient products. Andersen prides itself on being a part of the Energy Star program from the beginning in 1998. They were also the first to be awarded the Energy Star National Window Partner of the Year in 1999.

A Danish immigrant, Hans Andersen, founded Andersen Windows and Doors in 1903 when he moved to Hudson, Wisconsin. In 1905 Andersen originated the "two bundle" method, which allowed for easy on-job assembly through standardizing sizes of frame pieces, and then packing them in horizontal and vertical pairs.  Since then, Andersen has continued to innovate and enhance the marketplace of windows and doors though their ever-expanding "improvements." Some which include: being the first to fit their windows with Welded Insulating Glass to protect against condensation and frost (1952), as well as the development of Fibrex (1991), a new type of composite made of wood fiber and vinyl, making it resistant to rotting, with superb insulation and a low thermal expansion rate.
