Retro-Fit or New Construction?

Retro-fit window installationWhen you are replacing windows, is it best to retro-fit or fully replace with new? If you want to get the benefits of new windows without the mess of breaking out and repairing stucco, then retro-fit is going to be a good option. Retro-fit windows can be installed in less than half the time, with less disruption to your house, and for less money. There are a few down sides to retro-fit windows. The frames are often bulky so they cover the old frames, and the windows are a little smaller so they fit in the old opening. To get the maximum window size and the smallest frame appearance, you need to use a “nail-fin” or new construction window. This will require the stucco to be broken out around the window and repaired after the window goes in. The new construction method will take longer and cost more for installation, but it will maximize the light and your view.
